Guided Tour: Tastes of change – Photos of Restaurant Life in the 60s and 70s

In the 1960s and 70s, Finland experienced a transition that changed the way people ate and socialized in restaurants. Restaurants became oases of experiences and new flavors. The image of restaurants as places with white tablecloths began to fade.

The photographs in the exhibition offer a delightful glimpse into the era, which may also surprise those hungry for nostalgia. Many things happened for the first time – whether it was an evening at a beer restaurant, a night at a motel, a meal chosen from the children’s menu, or a lively party at a disco. During the guided tour, we will explore how social changes are reflected in restaurants.

The guided tour introduces visitors to the Hotel and Restaurant Museum’s exhibition Turbulent Decades – Photos of Restaurant Life in the 60s and 70s.

The tour is available from September 19, 2025, to August 30, 2026.
