The School Food of the Future and a Feast of Tastes

On the Night of the Arts, Thursday, August 20, 2026, the Hotel and Restaurant Museum offers free admission from 5 PM to 9 PM. Welcome to an experiential evening dedicated to food culture!

Tastes of School: New Innovations and All-Time Favorites (5 PM–8 PM)

What does today’s school food taste like? Forget old stereotypes and come sample future school food innovations alongside beloved all-time favorites.

You will also get to meet the talented creators behind school meals from Palvelukeskus Helsinki. At the same time, you can challenge your sense of taste and explore ingredients through all your senses in the popular Taste School, organized by The Finnish Society for Food Education Ruukku. Please note that tasting portions are limited.

Dream Treats Workshop (6 PM–8 PM)

What does the world’s best dish look like? Unleash your creativity and craft a plateful of your favorite delicacies in a non-stop workshop suitable for all ages. The workshop takes place in the museum café.

Triple the Fun Guided Tour: Three Museums in One Go at 5 PM

A fast-paced, one-hour introduction to all the Cable Factory museums. You will get a teaser of the contents of the Hotel and Restaurant Museum, the Theatre Museum, and the Finnish Museum of Photography. Limited to the first 20 participants.

Explore the Museum’s Exhibitions

In addition to the special program, you can tour the museum’s exhibitions, which are open all day. The Turbulent Decades exhibition takes you on a nostalgic journey through restaurant memories of the 1960s and 1970s. Taste Matters invites you to reflect on different perspectives of food and drink culture. You can also get into the festive spirit at the From Bridal Porridge to Wedding Cake mini-exhibition.
